Ron Unz Can Blow Me

Not that I'd let him

A friend of mine who’s in “the biz” - indeed, a most exceptional writer - considers the opening sentence of a recent email I sent to Ron Unz the best opening of any email he’s ever read:

Dear Ron,

Hopefully this message finds you well and not overly exhausted by Cockney villagers chasing you with torches because they think you’re an animal and not a human being.

To be clear, there’s nothing pretend, no (I hate this word) “kayfabe” in my hatred of Unz. I genuinely wish he were not in this world. He’s a menace, and I’ve never minced words about that.

Quite a few of you have asked why I didn’t respond to Unz’s attack on me a few months ago, and the honest reply is, the amount of text I’d have to expend to properly reply to his Holocaust denial bullshit, well…I can’t write that much for free. A typical Unz piece runs 18,000 words. Every Cole Takimag piece runs 1,840. And I get paid for that. I will not write 18,000 words unpaid. So in January when Unz, in his comments section, accused me of ducking him, I wrote him a simple email…

…that may have contained a few lines that were less-than-complimentary…

Ron, I’m a firm believer in the natural union of form and function, so I expect that any organism with a head shaped like yours would function as poorly as it looks.

…and I told him that I’d gladly respond to him, and I’d do so on his own site, but I needed to know what he paid for a one-off column. I didn’t ask for anything extra; I just asked what his standard rate was, and I told him that would do fine.

He never replied, preferring instead to publish an 18,000-word piece attacking me.

So my deal is, if I’m to respond to him, I want $200 - a modest sum, just enough for me to order a steak dinner delivered from Mastro’s - and an extra $600 to pay my copy editor friend, because I have the time, or rather I can find the time, to write 18,000 words, but I do not have the time for the tedious job of proofing, and if I can direct $600 to my good friend who does copy editing for a living, I’ll feel happier about having responded to the Elephant Ron.

So, someone wanna pony up $800? You’ll get a response to Unz.

Otherwise, clam up, you knuckleheads.

BTW, before you get to the link to this week’s Takimag column, in which I talk about Unz going after Steve Sailer, I’d like to make a point.

Unz is three years younger than Steve.

Ron Unz, age 62.

Steve Sailer (from a podcast a few months ago), age 65.

Yet it’s Unz who’s become the leader of Nazis who believe in exterminating the genetically inferior.

Ain’t life a mutherfucker?
