Or at least one hand in the air.
I don’t particularly like talking so much about Nazis these days. But jeez, folks, how can I not, when the GOP, conservative financiers, right-wing donors, and Elon Musk won’t stop talking about them either (and feting and promoting and rationalizing them)?
I mean, how can I not do a column about the “black Nazi” Republican in NC?
Especially as well over a year ago I warned the GOP about black Nazis.
Did anybody listen?
They never do.
So now we have the real-life Cotton Belt version of the “Black Führer of Harlem,” a character in Vonnegut’s Mother Night.
When this damnable election is over, I’m going cold turkey on sieg heilers for the rest of the year. In fact, I’m devoting Thanksgiving through Christmas to a series of pieces exploring the current implosion in Hollywood that’s damn-near thrown the entire town out of work.
But until then, here’s this week’s column (no Substack rant today…I only do one of those a week, to keep unsubs at a minimum):
Blacks Can’t Hold Their Hitler
If’n you like it, you can buy me a beer.
Or as the Black Führer would say, kauf mir ein Bier, sücka.
Looking forward to hearing about the meltdown in Hollywood.
Incisive as usual, Dave. This article gets to the core of our national "problem" and highlights the reason I moved from optimism to pessimism. The obvious thing is the appalling level of ignorance among the populace who seem to eat up these kooks who thrive on ridiculous Nazi/WW2 mythology. The less obvious thing is the compressed sense of any historical continuity that makes people believe two amazing things: One, that what went on in the 30s and 40s is, like, a bazillion years ago and doesn't matter and, Two, that modern America is basically late Weimar Germany and anything any politician says means that everyone on the "other side" is some kind of crypto Nazi. It's really some kind of peculiar schizophrenia, innit? The media gurus who give these wackadoodles oxygen should be ashamed of themselves, but large stacks of $$$ can abrogate a lot of shame. Looking forward to your next
